The Last Halloween
The Last Halloween
I am way behind in my planning this year! As you all know, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and dressing up in costume is something I don’t miss out on. I don’t have the first clue what my costume is going to be this year, which is definitely unusual for me. I usually spend weeks working on it! I’m not sure why I ‘m procrastinating, but it might be because this is the last Halloween I will be at the salon. It’s also been a very busy fall season again, which seems to be the case in every past post I’ve read from this time of year.
I mentioned last week that Coach and the girls were on fall break, didn’t I? I had an extra day off, but I spent 15 hours of it working on Feel Better Bags to prepare for the biggest craft fair I’ve ever done (it happened this past weekend, and was a great success). Coach spent his time erecting a kennel for our dogs for the overnight hours (they’ve pestered the neighbor a few times at night, and we don’t want any trouble) and building them a dog house. That project took away from several other projects Coach had for the week. The hallway floor didn’t even get leveled, because Coach’s help fell through. It was a non-eventful fall break, but I enjoyed the extra time with the girls and the slightly crisper weather. I did take the girls to do a little shopping on Columbus Day, but it never occurred to me to shop for Halloween costume materials! Pooh and Tigger don’t like to miss dressing up, either, so we really need to get on the ball.
All the other Halloweens
To help motivate me today, I’m going to share posts with you of Halloween pasts…complete with lots of pictures of my fun co-workers. It seems that this year in the salon, on my last Halloween, it may be a little low-key. Linnie-Pooh has a class to go to that day, and Angel isn’t planning to dress up. I’m not sure what the rest of the girls’ plans are, but I hope I’m not the only one who becomes someone else on October 30th (we dress up on Friday, since many of us don’t work on Saturday). If I am, I am…that has never stopped me before!
This was the first Halloween post I shared with you, from Halloween 2012: We Do Halloween, Baby! That was a fun year, for sure! I miss Lotus and her creative genius so much; having her a round made everybody get pumped about dressing up!
Here’s another great post: Halloween 2013. We had a good time that year, too. It’s so hard to believe that was two years ago! Last year was pretty subdued, kind of like this year seems to be shaping up. I didn’t even give Halloween its own post! Hair Color Trends (Plus, Halloween) does show off our costumes. Mine was cute, but pretty uncomfortable. I must do better this year!
What are your Halloween plans? Do you have any suggestions for me? I treasure your comments, so let me know what you think about all the Halloween fun I’ve shared today! I’m exhausted, and may not do much other than put my feet up today, so I’ll have plenty of time to read them and respond…and hopefully find some inspiration for Halloween ’15!

Susanne and I are skipping Fantasy Fest this year, saying no to parties where dress-up would be called for. We dressed up as brides for the cause of same-sex marriage and marched in the parade last year, but our most fun Halloween recently, 2012, I think (motif sea life), she dressed as a crab (boiled, all in red) and I found a green lace dress at the Salvation Army store, pinned paper marijuana leaves (the only kind I could find) all over it, wore a green hat with trailing green scarf, and went as algae. You guys have the crab hat now, though you may not want to use store bought stuff. My most fun costume was from years ago: I put real fall leaves all over a brown body suit using scotch tape circlets, went to a dance, and shed very authentically. XO

I forgot about all the fantasy-fest gear you shared with us! I’m going to go rifle through it right now! Great ideas, thanks!!

Another funny…I dressed as algae once as a kid. Madre made me a green blob costume, and I hung a sign around my neck that said “Farfy the Ferocious Algae”. Jimmie went as a fried egg that year…it was during her chicken-raising days.

I love the owl, although the idea of shedding very authentically is a pretty good one.

The owl has been done. I’m still stumped. My day did not go as planned!

Martie! I adore your Halloween pics from the past years and the owl costume is a real hoot! (pun intended!)
I’m feeling the same about Halloween this year..it’s coming on so fast and I’m not sure how to celebrate! Plus, I’ll be moving to a new apartment soon so my life is full of cardboard boxes and bubble wrap so I’m a bit preoccupied…But hmmm, just had a thought that I could wrap myself as a “Bubble Wrap Mummy” perhaps?
Sending you happy Tuesday wishes my friend!

PS: So glad and proud of you for your craft fair success!

You could totally go as the lady in Fried Green Tomatoes, when she dresses up in bubble wrap to try to get the spark back in her marriage! Or was it Saran Wrap? Either way, you could go around yelling “towanda!!” Lol! Hopefully we will both find the perfect costume in time!!
