Short Road Trip: Pensacola Beach!
Happy Friday, everyone! Another weekend is here, but I just don’t see how this one can top last weekend!
I mentioned on Wednesday that we traveled to see Daddy-O and JiJi, and I may have mentioned that they live on the Florida panhandle. I may have even teased you with a picture. I’m not done yet!
Isn’t it gorgeous? I just love the beach, and especially Pensacola Beach. The sand is white and clean, the water is bright greens and blues,
and the fact that Daddy-O and Jiji live just 20 minutes from there makes it even more amazing!
I actually love the city of Pensacola, and I wish I’d had time for more sight-seeing and picture-taking, but we were busy entertaining JiJi’s pretend dog, ShaQuanda. She’s not really Jiji’s dog, but Jiji likes to pretend that she is. She actually just dog-sits.
Ain’t she something?
That tail that you see going 90 mph is especially handy for slinging her “I-Just-Met-You-And-I’m-Excited” pee all over your feet! ShaQuanda loves to be cuddled, loves to bark at strangers (as if!), and loves to hang out in the kitchen while Daddy-O is cooking!
Speaking of Daddy-O, here is his garden!
Do remember when I said that even if I lived in the big city, I would at least have to grow tomatoes? Daddy-O may not live in a huge city, but he does live in a subdivision and this represents the entirety of the sandy back yard. He improvised, see? Like father like daughter, I guess!
It was an amazing weekend, and we even got to see The Squirt! I didn’t get any pictures with her, but I promise, I actually did see her! The Squirt is my elusive little sister who lives far away and rarely returns calls or texts. This was the first time I had seen her in two years! It was so great to hug her and hear all about what’s been happening in her life, and to spend some time with her and her friends. She just has the coolest friends!
It was a short, whirlwind trip, packed with lots of beach time, tons of delicious Daddy-O food, like boiled shrimp, blueberry pancakes, and the Mexican feast pictured above. Jiji made us a scrumptious pound cake, which we drowned in fresh Chilton County peaches and whipped cream, but I didn’t get any pictures of that, either. All I cared about was shoveling it in, and I’m sure I gained 8 to 10 pounds, but it was worth it!
If you’ve never visited Pensacola, you’re missing out. If you’ve never visited Pensacola Beach, you’re definitely missing out. I promise a future post with some of Pensacola’s finest features, but it will be while before we get to go back. Maybe I can talk Daddy-O into a guest post! He’s a very talented photographer, so the pictures will be way better than mine… if I can talk him into it.
Drop by with a comment and tell me which beach is your favorite, won’t ya? If not a beach, then where is your home away from home? I’ve been travelling to Pensacola for over 30 years, and I even lived there for about a year, so it’s just as familiar to me as my own hometown. I love to visit Pensacola and Pensacola Beach, and I never get tired of the scenery, the beautiful white, sandy beach, and Daddy-O’s delicious home cooking…..maybe we’ll plan to go back sooner than usual!
Here’s hoping everyone has an amazing weekend, whether you’re at home on your cozy couch or on a beautiful beach somewhere, soaking up the sun!

I think it would… I imagine you’d be a riot to travel with! My sister met some friends online that she travels with all the time!
