Popcorn Shrimp Two Ways
Jump to recipeI’m shamelessly going to show you how to serve popcorn shrimp two ways. Shamelessly, because I have a confession to make. I buy, and serve, frozen popcorn shrimp.
It’s really not bad, and the girls love it! While it’s pretty decent just cooked and served with some cocktail sauce and your favorite sides, I’ve found a couple of ways that I like it more. If you’re not too persnickety to eat frozen, pre-breaded, minced shrimp pieces, you should give these little ideas a try. Using the boxed stuff is a big time-saver, but if you want to use fresh shrimp, lightly dredged in flour then fried to perfection, call me and I’ll swing by and help you eat it! If you’re a busy Mom who needs a quick weeknight dinner idea, then you can easily use the store bought stuff for my popcorn shrimp, two ways.
Popcorn Shrimp Two Ways
Who doesn’t love a good Shrimp Po’Boy?
That’s way number one! All you need is some hoagie buns, some shredded lettuce, and the condiment of your choice. We like tartar sauce, but plain mayo or cocktail sauce would be fine, too. Tartar sauce is super easy to whip up, so I take a minute to do that when we’re having Shrimp Po’Boys. It’s just mayo, lemon juice and pickle relish!
Spread that on your hoagie bun, pile on the shrimp, garnish with lettuce (and for me, a little hot sauce), and dinner is done!
I did make these yummy baked potato wedges that I found on Six Sister’s Stuff to go with our big fat sandwiches, but you could just serve it with some chips and a pickle, especially if you’re running out the door for baseball practice, a Girl Scouts meeting, your pole dancing class…it’s perfect for a busy night!
Popcorn Shrimp, The Other Way
Way number two is actually my favorite. If you’ve ever eaten at Bonefish Grill, I’m sure you’ve tried their Bang Bang Shrimp. Of course, at Bonefish, they absolutely do use fresh shrimp, lightly dredged in flour then fried to perfection. Then they toss the shrimp in this delicious, spicy, creamy sauce that is just pure heaven! So, yeah, using the store bought popcorn shrimp is a total disgrace to the recipe, but the sauce is just so yummy…I’m sure this sauce would even be good on cardboard! It’s super simple, too. Mix up a dollop of mayonnaise, a good blob of sweet chili sauce, and a healthy squirt of Sriracha (my measurements are so accurate, no?). I was actually out of Sriracha when I made this last, so I used good ol’ Louisiana hot sauce.
It was still great, just a little less heat than the Sriracha in my opinion. As soon as your hot shrimp comes out of the oven, toss it around in this heavenly bath to coat each and every little shrimpy-poo.
It could totally go on a hoagie roll this way, but I like to eat my Sweet Chili Shrimp with a fork, as is. This is Tigger’s favorite way, as well.
If you’re me, you can’t choose a way, so you have a little of both!
Ok, so I don’t usually make popcorn shrimp two ways on the same night, but I needed them both for this gorgeous photo shoot!
I thought you guys might be tired of seeing my same old plates, so I pulled out my ‘Space’ plates. Any time I serve a meal to my children on these plates they will comment, “shrimp in space!” Or “Toaster Strudels in space!” They do kind of look like the Milky Way, don’t they?
Ingredients
- 1 box frozen popcorn shrimp, cooked according to directions
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 12 cup sweet chili sauce
- 1 Tablespoon Sriracha sauce
Instructions
- Mix the mayo, sweet chili sauce and Sriracha sauce in a medium bowl.
- Toss the hot shrimp with the sauce as soon as it comes out of the oven to coat evenly.
- Serve!
So, one last time, feast your eyes on popcorn shrimp two ways, in space!
Be sure to feast your family on these two great ideas, as well. Shrimp Po’Boys and Sweet Chili Shrimp are simple, quick and delicious dinner ideas that your family will love. If they don’t, then holler at me and I’ll help you eat it!
Enjoy!
