Crack Candy Recipe And The Week I Got My Groove Back
Jump to recipeCrack Candy Recipe And The Week I Got My Groove Back
I have an amazing crack candy recipe to share with you today in celebration of some much-needed down time. Coach and the girls have been on fall break, and that was the week I got my groove back!
{To be clear, I didn’t get my Stella groove back…there was no fancy beach resort, nor was there a buff young man involved. I’m happily married to Coach, and he’s all the hunk I need.}
It’s the third day in a week for me to blog! Whaaaat? That’s unheard of! Thanks to fall break (I took a couple days off work while the fam is out of school) and Blogging 101, I feel like the most productive person right now!
What Did I Do?
How have I spent my time? I have worked on the Big Creek house with Coach. (You can catch up with our progress at Big Creek here and here.)

Under the stairs. Why is it full of cedar shavings? Um…there’s no floor…
crack candy recipe
I did some cooking, including this delicious “crack candy”. This stuff is amazing! When it comes to sweet and salty treats, this is tops! I scored the recipe from a cookbook that my sister Jimmie gave me, one of those collaborations of recipes from her office mates. It’s apparently a ragingly popular recipe nowadays, but it’s obviously been around forever, since I’ve had this cookbook for forever.
This is the simplest recipe in the world, and you absolutely cannot stop eating it (ok I can’t stop eating it; you may have more self-control than me). Just a few ingredients that you probably already have is all it takes to slip into a sugary, salty, chocolaty heaven! If you’ve been around any time at all, you know I’m a sucker for sweet and salty treats…they’re my weakness.
I also made some homemade soup, but when you are not good at food photography, homemade soup can wind up looking like something that has already been eaten once. No one wants to see that.
Here’s the crack candy recipe:
Ingredients
- 24-30 saltine crackers
- 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup chopped nuts like walnuts, peanuts or pecans (optional)
- 1 stick of butter (or margarine, but I say butter)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Line cookie pan with saltines.
- Melt sugar, butter and vanilla in a saucepan and pour over crackers.
- Bake 10-15 minutes until golden brown and bubby.
- Remove pan from oven and immediately pour the chocolate chips onto the hot crackers.
- Spread the chocolate with a knife, like frosting, then sprinkle with nuts.
- Put in freezer until hardened (around 30 minutes), then remove and break into small pieces.

Flax seed heat wraps
I’ve also been sewing away on my flax seed heat wraps, called Flaxie Hugs.
I know you are just dying to know what a Flaxie Hug is! I make these and sell them in my Etsy shop, AHairInMyBiscuit. The one pictured is a flax seed neck wrap that I call “Hug Your Neck”. I sell these and several other styles of lovely heat therapy bags, fabulous up-cycled salon wear, and my handy bobby pin bracelets that I make in my home studio. I’m working on freshening up my shop, and I’m planning new ways to promote it. I hope you’ll check it out! To learn more about Flaxie Hugs, click here and here.
fall break bliss
After months of being very non-productive, I have finally found a way to make things and keep the house tidy. It’s called “Not Having A Job”. Thank God, I do have a job, so when I go back to work today I’ll have to pack up everything and leave it packed up for a while. Such is life.
Right now, I think I’ll make a cup of coffee, and maybe sip it while I nibble on a sweet, salty cracker.

That is my kind of ‘staycation’! It must feel great to get to indulge in things you would rather be doing than working. 🙂
