Prismacolor 48 Colored Pencils
Prismacolor 48 Colored Pencils
Yes, I have to brag about my Prismacolor 48 Colored Pencils set. Any artist or doodler worth his salt would have to brag over these pencils, especially one who has been artisting and doodling with a measly set of only 24 Polycolor colored pencils, and some ol’ Target brand colored pencils, for the past couple of years.

I don’t mean to brag, but I was gifted well this Christmas. There are two things that had been on my Christmas list for a few years now, and I scored BIG TIME this year. This was my year, friends! I’ve been hinting around for these two things and hoping and dreaming and praying, because I’m not the kind of gal to just go buy what I want, especially when what I want is rather expensive. I got them both this year! WOW! How did I get so lucky? This beautiful, magical, wonderful set of Prismacolor 48 colored pencils is now in my possession, and I am absolutely elated!
Hold your horses for the other thing.
Bragging Rights
Here it is… my set of Prismacolor 48 colored pencils, in all its glory. You can click the link or on the pictures to order some for yourself from Amazon, and you’ll get them for a lot less than I did!
It was no small feat acquiring these beauties. Madre gave me a gift card to Hobby Lobby, then Daddy-O and JiJi hooked me up with a second one. With the amazing 40% off coupon that’s always available at Hobby Lobby, my favorite retailer, I had enough to get them! These aren’t cheap. In fact, they are so un-cheap that you have to tote an empty box up to the register and wait for the cashier to go get the real goods. The first location I tried was out of them, so I had to wait a few more days until I could try a different store.
Of course, I didn’t realize at the time that Amazon had them for 1/4 of the price. No matter…I didn’t receive Amazon gift cards, so I had to work with what I had. Getting these puppies into my greedy hands was one of the best moments of my life, seriously! I’ve waited so long, and they smell so good, and there are TWO LAYERS… sort of like when you get the big Whitman’s sampler!
what have i done with them?
So, what have I done with my new pencils, you ask? Sadly, I’ve managed to draw exactly one thing with them in the last month.
Ain’t he cute? I drew this precious donkey for Jimmie, and have yet to give it to her. Jimmie just loves donkeys.
That’s kind of a lie…that statement that the donkey was all I drew. I did make the girls a couple of bookmarks with their names on them, all fancy-schmancy, but they’ve already carted those off to school this morning, so I can’t show them to you. But, I don’t really count those anyway, so it wasn’t really a lie. Just a fib. The point is, I have, in fact, used my Prismacolor 48 colored pencils…all 48 of them…at least once. Even the ugly colors.
doodle art love
I absolutely heart drawing. It’s such a relaxing thing, and I love seeing the images play out on paper. I’ve shared some of my sketches and doodles with you before in my post My Big Ol’ Bag, and I bragged about my new scanner/printer and how I could post higher quality images of my artwork in my post Not Just a Hair Artist. I’m going to shamelessly display some more of my doodle sketch pad with you today, but just know these were done with my measly set of 24 colored pencils (ok, I’ll admit, the Polycolor colored pencils are pretty awesome, too but the set costs about the same as the Prismacolor 48 on Amazon), and many of them a long time ago. And I’m not using my cool scanner/printer for quality, just snapshots like always. I’m lazy like that.
Lots of times I just fill up a page with random doodle art love, so you may see some repeats. These are some of my best colored pencil drawings, so be gentle.
One of these monsters has made an appearance in the past, but the other one got jealous.
I know, I’m a total weirdo. So is this purple guy. I just put the pencil to paper and wait to see what I get sometimes. The page is actually full of them, but I don’t want to tarnish my image too much, so you just get to see these two. I really kind of like this grinning, purple freak, though.
I have lots of pages like that, just full of stuff that I put down. I don’t like to waste paper, so I usually just fill all of the space. I’m sure Madre and Daddy-O will say I’ve come a long way from when I was a kid and would make one mark on a sheet of paper, wad it up and toss it, and start over.
My favorite one on this page is the perched owl, which I never finished. He needs to be filled in more and shaded and such. That’s the thing with us artistic types; sometimes we don’t follow through.
I have notebooks full of drawings and sketches and doodles that I’ve done. Lot’s of them aren’t really finished, sadly. I still enjoy looking back over my work, and I may go in and work on some of them more, adding things and filling in details.
no method to my madness
I like to create abstract art,
challenge myself with still-life stuff with lots of detail,
and just draw really random body parts, like eyes.
She looks sleepy.
I pretty much can’t sew anything new without drawing it first, so I have a lot of idea sketches, as well. I’d share them, but some-a-you fools might steal my ideas! (I don’t really believe that, but it’s after 8, which means my bonus data is over for the day, and I don’t need to upload many more pictures.)
So, if you look at the history of things, you know that I’ll get quite a lot of use out of these beautiful Prismacolor 48 colored pencils. No, I don’t do the best colored pencil drawings, but I enjoy it so much. I have so many drawings in my brain that just haven’t had time to transfer through my hand and onto paper yet. There’s plenty of time, and I have plenty of pencils!
what was the other exciting gift?
The second fabulous gift I received this year? These gorgeous, most-coveted black diamond earrings, from Coach.
This was the gift that made me gasp, holler, jump up and down and shower my husband with kisses. I’ve wanted a pair of black diamond earrings for so long, and he saved up and got them for me! What a guy! I’ve hardly taken them off since Christmas! They’re just perfect. I’m not much of a jewelry girl, and Coach knows that I prefer small and dainty earrings over big and gaudy ones. He just nailed it!
Anyway, that was kind of bragging. But he deserves the praise!
What’s in Your Doodle Sketch Pad?
Do you like to draw? What is your favorite drawing medium? I love your comments, so do tell. Colored pencil is definitely mine, but I also enjoy pen and ink and just plain ol’ Number 2 pencil. The coolest thing about art is that there is no “wrong”. Whatever you create is yours and it is art, so draw often…even if you think you suck. The more you do it, the less you’ll suck, and if anyone tells you that you suck, tell them to give me a call.

So jealous of those colored pencils!!!! I love to color because I don’t have the talent to draw. Especially love that lil Fox you drew:-)
